K–12 Projects
AIR often works with educators on larger, multiple session projects that can be integrated more fully into a class curriculum.
Classes of students can visit the AIR studio multiple times over the course of a semester and work on larger semester long projects. AIR can often organize short exhibitions in AIR’s gallery spaces and facilitate receptions or events for the students and their families at the end of the project.
Process
Often projects will involve students collaborating on images relevant to their semester’s work. Preliminary visits to AIR are organized to allow students to get a sense of how prints are designed and engineered and to demonstrate processes and possibilities. Students then work with their teachers to develop images.
Most often, image files are then sent to AIR and images are processed for printing (films are made, screens are exposed, etc.). A second visit is then scheduled, and these processes are demonstrated to the students providing them with a basic understanding of how the print will be created. At this point, multiple sessions can be scheduled to allow students to actually be involved in the hands-on printing of the work.
Pricing
Pricing for these projects is based primarily on materials used and labor time scheduled so there is room to work around budgets. Generally, the size and number of prints to be created determines the base costs. When students collaborate on images, we can optimize how many screens and layers can be printed cost effectively. When it is desirable for each student to have their own image, we discuss how best to optimize this approach.
