Education

AIR supports learning in all its forms, challenging the mature artist to understand new work and aspiring artists and others to explore new ideas.

AIR believes that what the artist does is valuable to our communities. The ability to focus our inquiries, to substantively research our questions, and to purposefully present ideas serves all of us, young and old.

K–12 Workshops: Single Session

AIR provides support for single session workshops and studio tours for K12 educators and their

students. AIR can organize on-site workshops for small classes that can range from a short field trip to 4-hour hands on printing sessions.

K–12 Projects: Multiple Sessions

AIR often works with educators on larger, multiple session projects that can be integrated more Fully into a class curriculum. Classes of students can visit the AIR studio multiple times over the course of a semester and work on larger semester long projects. AIR can often organize short exhibitions in AIR’s gallery spaces and facilitate receptions or events for the students and their families at the end of the project.

K–12 Educator Support: Teach the Teachers

AIR can tailor workshops for educators (teach the teachers) that can cover a range of technical and aesthetic issues around prints and printmaking. We can provide technical training in a given process and we can provide assistance in the setup of cost-effective processes and procedures that might work for instruction in a classroom environment.

Hands-On Community Printing Projects

AIR provides hands-on screen-printing activities for offsite community projects and festivals.

Generally, we can create printing screens of your organization’s logo or other visual materials and we can bring equipment, materials, and supplies to your site to print in real time. We can do the printing; we can organize demonstrations, or we can organize hands-on printing for your community members.

Youth Open Studio

Our drop in Youth Open Studio program that we do in collaboration with the Andy Warhol

Museum is available every Wednesday evening from 4–8 p.m.

Assistantships

AIR assistantships are designed to help artists develop and exercise technical and professional skills while serving the needs of the organization and creating a dynamic learning environment in the studio.

There are limited slots for assistantships at AIR and each assistantship demands a 12-week commitment. Work Shifts are scheduled in 4-hour increments MWF from 12 to 4 and 4 to 8 PM.
