AIR is looking for a working artist to fill our new Studio Manager (Artist /Educator) position.
Artists Image Resource is hiring a Studio Manager (Artist/Educator) who will be responsible for coordinating and managing all studio projects including production printing (must have significant printmaking skills especially in screenprinting), education (must be interested in teaching), and exhibition support (art handling and social media skills a plus). Must have management experience. This is a 3/4 time to full time position that will demand 30 to 40 hours per week. Pay will be commensurate with experience and will fall between $17 to $19 per hour. The organization is expanding programming and there is opportunity for growth. Employment includes scheduled access to all studio facilities and services with no fees. THE ORGANIZATION (summary)
Artists Image Resource (AIR) is an artist run, non-profit, print and imaging studio established to serve as a laboratory for artists, educators and the community. AIR integrates the creation of fine art print projects with educational programs that explore the role of the artist in contemporary culture. Our mission is to explore how print and imaging processes are being used in broader contemporary art-making practice and how these practices impact and reflect culture. Leadership and management staff is made up of artist/printmakers who have skills in multiple areas and who work together to organize and execute projects. This includes taking responsibility for the actual hands-on processing and final printing of projects as well as organizing and scheduling personnel, facilities, equipment and materials.
AIR production print processes include Screenprinting, Digital Printing, Relief Printing, Intaglio Printing, Lithography and other related analog and digital processes. Print and maker services include digital printing, screen processing, screen studio rentals and tech support, pressroom rentals, teaching tutorials, workshops, and outreach programs.
Education areas include K12 student and teacher projects and programs, AIR’s Youth Open Studio program and AIR’s Youth and University Assistantship program. Print processes utilized for education include Screen, Digital, and Relief printing as well as other related analog and digital \processes.
Exhibition programs include annual Open Portfolio, Open House, Open Archive and Artists Project exhibitions as well as several partner exhibitions scheduled throughout the year. AIR’s archive contains prints and educational materials that are regularly organized into various presentation packages for exhibition and web presentations.
Job Description:
STUDIO MANAGER (Artist / Educator)
Studio Manager Responsibilities:
The Studio Manager will be involved with the coordination and management of all AIR Studio Projects including Production, Education and Exhibition programs and services.
The Production component of this role demands technical printmaking skills and includes coordinating scheduling and managing the production facilities and inventories, executing print projects, and communications with artists. Responsibilities will include artist relations, project development, project engineering, project organization, materials purchasing, staff scheduling, facilities scheduling, hands-on processing and printing, project execution, tracking and reporting. Production projects include large scale resident projects, contract printing projects and community access, off-the-street print services.
The Education component of this role includes providing direct hands-on teaching and printing activities for projects and programs as well as designing new programs, building new partnerships and serving as the primary liaison to existing educational partners. Responsibilities will include curriculum development, project organization, materials purchasing, staff scheduling, facilities scheduling, hands-on teaching, tracking and reporting. Education projects may include on-site classes, workshops and tutorials as well as off-site outreach projects. Projects may include multiple or single sessions on and off site.
The Exhibition component of this Studio Manager role includes involvement with installing and hosting AIR exhibitions and assisting with the promotion and marketing of the studio.
Responsibilities will include working with artists on the development, staging and installation of exhibitions, gallery prep and art handling. This will further include involvement in the organization and staffing of receptions, events and covering gallery hours.
Studio Manager Requirements
Education & Experience
· Competency in two or more printmaking processes including an ability to teach these processes to others is required. (Screenprinting, Digital Printing (mandatory), Relief, Intaglio, Lithography, Letterpress (desired).
· Competency and some experience teaching, particularly at the K-12 level
· Competency with Adobe Creative Suite products including InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
· Administrative and Management experience, particularly at a nonprofit organization, preferred
· Clearances
